WKU Concert: Symphonic Band: A Night at the Opera

A Night at the Opera will feature wonderful classics written for the stage dating back to the 19^th century at the Paris Opera House, with the Overture to Zampa, the wonderful comic opera by Ferdinand Herold. Zampa was first performed in Paris in 1831, where it became popular, achieving 500 performances by 1877.  The Zampa Overture is Herold’s most famous work and has become a staple in the symphonic repertoire.

WKU Professors Dr. Liza Kelly, Mezzo Soprano, and Dr. Jeremy Kelly, Baritone, will each sing an aria from Bizet’s incredibly popular opera Carmen.   They will also be featured along with Adjunct Professor of Voice, Jennifer Hondorp (soprano), performing highlights from two 20th-century masterpieces for musical theatre, Phantom of the Opera, and Les Misérables.  

The band will also perform Mambo from Bernstein’s West Side Story and selections from the hit TV Musical from 1978, The Wiz.

General Admission tickets are only $10 and will be available at the door the night of the concert.
