SUMMARY:Nashville Symphony | Beethoven's "Heroic" Symphony #3
DESCRIPTION:Nashville Symphony \nBrett Mitchell\, conductor \nEdgar Meyer\, double bass \nSam Bacco\, percussion \n\nBeethoven began composing his 3rd Symphony in honor of Napoleon\, whom he believed was earnest in his bringing liberty to the French people. When it became apparent that Napoleon was nothing but another ‘tyrant\,’ he re-dedicated his title to In memory of a great man. So the title “Eroica” or “Heroic” is ironic. \nThis concert also features a Double Bass Concerto\, which is rare to hear\, and music by Samuel Barber. \n\nProgram \nSamuel Barber: Medea’s Meditation and Dance of Vengeance  \nEdgar Meyer: Concerto No. 2 for Double Bass in B \nLudwig van Beethoven: Symphony No. 3 (“Eroica”) \nProgram Notes Available on the Event Website: Eroica Concert Nashville \nPre-Concert Lecture starts 1 Hour Before the Concert in Laura Turner Concert Hall.
