SUMMARY:Nashville Philharmonic: FREE Concert: Adams\, Theofanidis and Shostakovich May 5 & 10
DESCRIPTION:Nashville Philharmonic\nDr. Christopher Norton\, Conductor \nJohn Adams – Short Ride in a Fast Machine\n– Vaughn Richardson\, NPO Conducting Fellow\nChristopher Theofanidis – Rainbow Body \nDmitri Shostakovich – Symphony No. 10 \nTue\, may 5\, 7:30 pm\nAdmission Free\nNashville State Community College\nH-Building Auditorium\n126 White Bridge Pike\nNashville\, TN 37209\nParking Map: Click Here \nSpanning high-energy minimalism and some of the most emotionally complex works of the last 80 years\, the program offers audiences a striking conclusion to the season. \nThe concert opens with Adams’s Short Ride in a Fast Machine\, a kinetic and propulsive fanfare that has become one of the most recognizable works in contemporary American orchestral music. Theofanidis’s Rainbow Body follows\, a shimmering and expansive work inspired by a medieval chant and known for its radiant textures and sense of transcendence. Anchoring the program is Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 10\, a monumental and deeply personal work composed in the aftermath of Stalin’s death\, widely regarded as one of the composer’s most searing and emotionally resonant symphonies.

SUMMARY:Nashville Symphony | Beethoven's "Heroic" Symphony #3
DESCRIPTION:Nashville Symphony \nBrett Mitchell\, conductor \nEdgar Meyer\, double bass \nSam Bacco\, percussion \n\nBeethoven began composing his 3rd Symphony in honor of Napoleon\, whom he believed was earnest in his bringing liberty to the French people. When it became apparent that Napoleon was nothing but another ‘tyrant\,’ he re-dedicated his title to In memory of a great man. So the title “Eroica” or “Heroic” is ironic. \nThis concert also features a Double Bass Concerto\, which is rare to hear\, and music by Samuel Barber. \n\nProgram \nSamuel Barber: Medea’s Meditation and Dance of Vengeance  \nEdgar Meyer: Concerto No. 2 for Double Bass in B \nLudwig van Beethoven: Symphony No. 3 (“Eroica”) \nProgram Notes Available on the Event Website: Eroica Concert Nashville \nPre-Concert Lecture starts 1 Hour Before the Concert in Laura Turner Concert Hall.

SUMMARY:Nashville Symphony
DESCRIPTION:Nashville Symphony | Leonard Slatkin\, conductor | Kelly Hall-Tompkins\, violin \nIn celebration of the return of the Nashville Symphony’s 2026/27 season\, Music Director Leonard Slatkin offers an evening of joy and exhilaration fitting for Music City. \nWynton Marsalis is America’s jazz ambassador\, and his Violin Concerto expands what an orchestral concerto can sound like. Rooted in swing\, blues\, and the American fiddle tradition\, it sounds like nothing else. \nAnd you’ll never forget the night Kelly Hall-Tompkins played it in Nashville. Acclaimed by The New York Times as “the versatile violinist who makes the music come alive\,” Hall-Tompkins brings her signature lyricism and verve to this performance. \nThe whole evening is filled with memorable melodies\, from the ominous opening and sweeping drama of Verdi’s Overture to La forza del destino to Mozart’s Symphony No. 39\, one of three major symphonies he composed in a single summer. \nProgram\nVerdi: Overture to La forza del destino \nMozart: Symphony No. 39\nMarsalis: Violin Concerto
